Vevo: Virtual Evolution
Vevo hopes to showcase the power of evolution by isolating and
accelerating the mechanisms by which it operates. At its core, Vevo is
a system for describing, simulating and breeding virtual creatures in
a physically accurate underwater environment.
Each creature that emerges within the system has
been produced by the artificial selection, breeding and evolution of
previous creatures, and as such cannot be considered to have been
deliberately designed. With no external guidance, the design of each
of the creatures is dictated solely by the evolution algorithm. There
is a degree of randomness in all evolution, and viewers can contribute
to this by their interaction with the exhibit. In presenting this simulation of Darwinian evolution it is hoped that the viewer will be provoked to
consider the nature of evolution and how it might produce life.

Exhibition Overview
Every year students participating in the M.Sc. in Multimedia Systems
Programme at Trinity College collaborate to create exciting and
innovative projects for display to the general public. This year is no
different, with students producing computer games, time-lapse
photography, artificial life simulators and sensor-controlled
environments. As many of this year's projects are sensor-based we are
proud to present this year's show: "Sensored Media 2006".

Around Ireland
A website documenting Irish life and showcasing mobile video and photography, all uploaded directly while travelling the country.
Jenifer Hanen, Shonagh Hurley, Simon Tomkins, Jasper Wood

Dark Matter
The Dark Matter project creates an immersive multimedia installation, which allows users to physically interact with
procedurally generated visuals and audio effects.
Nuria Lopez, Christine Mitchell, Elinor Mombrun-O'Neill, Vanessa Power

Explore Beckett
A novel way to explore major dramatic works of Samuel Beckett. Navigate through a surreal world populated with a number Beckett's characters and learn a little more about one of Ireland's most important writers.
Andrew Nolan

Resonance
Resonance uses the media of audio and photography to create an audiovisual interactive installation. Using multiple perspectives of the same scene this project explores how narratives unfold in time and space through the use of inanimate objects.
Edel Campbell, Victoria Macarthur, Fionnuala Mahon, Fiona McDonald, Elaine McHugh, Amy Walsh

Super Fly Guy
Super Fly Guy is a game that lets you experience what it would be like to fly. You can navigate through an atmospheric location by standing in front of a large screen and making flying gestures with your arms.
John Braine, Stewart Curry, Wolfe Fishbourne, Philip Larkin

Vevo
Vevo examines the concept of evolution by presenting a virtual evolution
system which mimics Darwinian evolution. Within this system, which
will evolve over the course of the exhibition, virtual 'creatures'
will emerge. These autonomous creatures will behave, breed and evolve
within a physical model of an underwater environment. Vevo aims to
question our notion of evolution and how it relates to living things.
Emmanuel Stone

Vircle
Vircle acts as an interactive virtual games board beginning with a four player virtual air hockey game, that is played with a virtual puck and physical “strikers” that are tracked with sensors to interact with elements of the game.
Mick Cullinan, Edward Kyriacou, Orla McGuinness, Ronan Spratt
