Drawings of a Floating World"The world is already constitute but also never completely constituted; in the first case we are acted upon, in the second we are open to an infinite number of possibilities... for we exist in both ways at once. There is, therefore, never determinism and never absolute choice." - Merleau-Ponty Drawings of a Floating World is an immersive, responsive environment inspired by kinetic action painting and the calligraphic aesthetics of Japanese Sumi-e and Ukiyo-e, where imagery is conceived not from a photographic representation of an object but rather by interpreting its essence. Visitors are invited to engage in a kinesthetic, aural and visual drawing experience. Generative, graphical patterns and sounds are projected on to a series of encircling, floating planes which dynamically respond to visitors' physical movements and gestures. The intention is to encourage playful, intuitive, spatial and embodied interaction by presenting digital media as a malleable medium that can be pushed, pulled, stretched and sculpted.
